Analysis of an Acid Deposition Episode and Preparation of Meteorological Input Data for an Eulerian Longrange Transport and Deposition Model
Abstract:
A complex 3-dimensional acid deposition model will be applied to the episode 20.2. – 11.3.1982 over Central Europe. An overview is given of the present status of the meteorological input preparation. The episode is devided in two periods with similar meteorological features: During both Central Europe is under the influence of a high pressure system moving eastwards followed by rapidly moving frontal zones carrying precipitation. However, air parcel trajectories show different origins in both periods. Selected air quality measurements are presented to show characteristics of pollutant behaviour. The daily concentration of SO2 in the first period is higher than in the second. The mean concentration of SO4 in rain is increasing eastwards for the total of the episode. To obtain physical consistency, a complex weather forecast model from the DWD will be used as a preprocessor, allowing to bypass the internal cloud moduls of TADAP. A detailed meteorological analysis will be performed utilizing conventional network observations and satellite data to gain additional insight into dynamical processes and to compare measured and prognostic variables with special emphasis to cloud and precipitation.
